Day after Mumbai fire incident killed 14 persons, senior officials the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Saturday hold a meeting and directed zonal Deputy Commissioners to constitute ward-wise teams to inspect fire safety measures in all restaurants, banquet halls and premises.
In a statement, SDMC said as per a check list, the teams will find out about the required number of fire extinguishers, alarming system, water hydrants, emergency exits and staircases.
Additional Commissioner Randhir Sahay directed officers to obtain an undertaking from the establishments about existence of proper safety mechanism. “In case, any establishment does not have adequate fire safety mechanism, the department will have to initiate legal action including filing a FIR.”
