25 tonnes of toxic waste found dumped

Belgrade: The mayor of a Belgrade suburb said today that a large-scale investigation will be launched following the discovery of 25 tonnes of toxic waste found dumped in a private field. “This is just the beginning of a major operation that will take place on our territory and in Serbia," Obrenovac mayor Miroslav Cuckovic told state television (RTS).

Kim's posthumous single for charity

london: South Korean band SHINee's lead singer Kim Jong-hyun's posthumous single has been released and proceeds from it will go to UNICEF.

The song, titled "Dear My Family" will be released by SM Entertainment as part of the SM Station series and has a "memorial" theme, according Metro.

Court sentences Morsi to 3 years in prison

Cairo: An Egyptian court sentenced ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi to three years in prison along with 19 other defendants today for "insulting the judiciary," his lawyer said.The other defendants include former members of parliament, activists and three journalists.

Morsi had already been sentenced to a total of 45 years in prison in two other trials after the military ousted him in 2013.

Gazan dies after  clash with Israel forces

Gaza City: A Gazan died today after being wounded by Israeli fire during a protest on the border over US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, a Palestinian health official said. Jamal Muslih, 20, of Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, had been seriously wounded by live fire yesterday, health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said.

Man mowed down by Melbourne car

Melbourne: An elderly man has died after being mowed down during a car rampage in Melbourne last week, police saidon Saturday, with one of 18 attempted murder charges expected to be upgraded to murder. Afghan-Australian Saeed Noori, who has a history of drug abuse and mental problems, is accused of ploughing his car through a busy intersection earlier this month, careering into tourists and shoppers.
