To deepen the understanding and appreciation of TS Eliot’s works in context of contemporary dilemma, a national seminar was organised on Monday.
The workshop on Contemporary Interpretations of TS Eliot was organised by English literature Department of Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS).
Experts Prof Abhijit Gupta from Jadavpur University and Prof Sonjoy Dutta Roy from University of Allahabad were present to speak on the topic.
Professor Sonjoy Dutta Roy in his session dealt with ‘Hundred Visions and revisions of Eliot’s Poetry’. Second and third sessions were conducted by Professor Abhijit Gupta, in which he spoke on ‘Eliot as Precursor of New Criticism/Formalism’ and ‘Heap of Broken images in Eliot’s Plays’.
This was followed with the Panel Discussion in which the faculties of several colleges from across the country participated enthusiastically.
HOD Department of English (BSSS) Supriya Mandloi spoke on this occasion. She said that this workshop was organized to examine Eliot’s insights into modern psyche and to march the students towards excellence.
While explaining the motive behind the workshop she said that renowned poet Eliot is regarded as the critic of the civil social order so the objective of the workshop was to get new insights through a comprehensive review of his selected works to improve and increase the understanding of his intricate thought process while enhancing familiarity with his prolific stylistic devices.
During the seminar the students empowered the ability to express their ideas and present arguments convincingly. They also learnt to explore the research gap in Eliot studies. They studied Eliot as a creator of urban legends; they even came to know the obscurity and complexity in Eliot.
