The young couples of the capital seem to be too shameless to express their “love” at public places. Places like Sidu Kanhu Park, Nigam Park and Nakshatra Van are filled with the couples doing intimate activities in the walled recreational parks without caring who is watching them. The “love starved” couples do not feel hesitant sitting beside the trees or uncomfortable muddy grass displaying their affection in public.
The administration seems helpless as the regular visitors often witness these activities by the couples. People, who like spending time in open and greenery, avoid going to these places because of the increase in obscenity in public places. “Now the things have changed I don’t go to the park for evening walk” said Narayan Das, a local resident.
The walled parks give ample chance to couples and love birds to get indulged in explicit activities. For revenue purposes, the administration is less interested in demolishing the brick walls by coving these parks with sign and advertising boards. Police personnel are also appointed to maintain the decorum, but they are not able to control the situation.
“We are here to maintain peace and security; we cannot ask the couples why they are doing these things in public” Shanti Devi, a police constable said. To remove obscenity from public places, Closed Circuit TV Cameras are being installed in walled parks by the authorities.
To make the place more awkward, people outside the park, stand on high raised objects and peek to have a look at the love scene inside the park. This makes the situation worse for the passersby and local residents. “We are fed up of proposing demolishing the walls of the park, the authorities would not listen.” said the ticket collector at Sidu Kanhu Park.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sadar), Vikas Chandra Shrivastava, said that vigilant constables will be appointed and severe actions will be taken against the couples doing obscene activities at public places.
