Demanding hike in the incentive amount for construction of  toilets under the Swachh Bharat mission, hundreds of the people protested and stopped the BDO for inspection at Kolbendi village in Bokaro district.

The residents of Kolbendi village under Pindrajora police station threatened ‘open defecation’ in group if the government did not pay heed to their demands.

"Presently, Government is providing the incentive amount of `12,000 for construction of an individual’s toilet under the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat mission but the villagers are demanding hike in the incentives," said Kapil Kumar BDO Chas.

We are going for inspection of the toilet construction work at the village but irked villagers stopped us while we are on the way and started agitation, said Kumar.

A case has been filed against one Ajay Kumar and others at local police station for creating obstruction in government works, he said.

Notably, defecation in the open was completely banned in Chas (Bokaro) on 22 December 2016 and section 133 of CrPC was imposed. Amidst all Chas becomes the first municipal corporation in Jharkhand to get the ODF status 16 February after two successive surveys conducted by the teams of Quality Control of India, Chas got the status. This is the result of all our efforts, its proud moment for us, said an official.

Our efforts are ‘on’ to promote better sanitation and hygiene to the residents of Chas. Toilets are only a part of the sanitation solution though we are on move to tackle Sewage, wastewater and solid waste management on war foot basis, said Bholu Paswan Mayor Chas.
