Navin Simgh has got a new lease of life. He had come across a male elephant at Bhawar Bandha forest under Garu West of the buffer zone of the tiger reserve and the elephant just made bid to take him into his trunk but an agile Navin Singh did not lose his presence of mind and hid himself in a nearby bush said the ranger of West Garu Ashok Kumar Singh. The elephant continued looking for him there for some time and Navin just sat under the bush with his frozen breath.
Singh said Navin after spending some time ran for a big cover and in this panic run he got his right knee badly injured. Navin is a daily wage earner and does varied works to run his family.
Navin got 11 stitches on his right knee but he is contented that his life is safe as the elephant would have trampled him to death.
The elephant raised a storm of dust to further blur the vision of Navin from running away .
Ranger said Navin and 6 others had been to jungle to collect fire wood when this encounter with the elephant took place.
Ranger conceded that Navin did not come in the clutch of the elephant otherwise he would have by now multiple fractures on his body but there is nothing like this except the right knee injuries.
The elephant is of the PTR, Officials have given him `1,300 so far. Navin was treated at the referral hospital in Garu. According to ranger he would be lilkely to be discharged this Monday itself.
