UP police slaps fine on traffic violators

Carrying out a major drive against offenders of traffic rules, particularly against those not wearing helmets/ using headphones while driving two wheelers and those not tying seat belts while driving four-wheeler, the UP police slapped fine on around 10,000 people for violation of traffic rules with a penalty and fine to the tune of over Rs two lakh was realized from them during the last two days long drive all across the state. 

The drive, started from July 28 last for next two weeks, after chief minister Yogi Aditynath made a statement in the state assembly asking the peoples’ representatives to aware public about the traffic rules and appeal to them not to violate it.

As per the figures of the UP government one people die in very 27 minutes in a road accident in UP while there is one big accident in the state in every 15 minutes.

As per the state home department figures, in 2016, there were a total of  35612 road accidents in the state in which  19,320 people lost their lives and 25096 others were injured. It was also mentioned that most of the deaths were caused as the sufferers were not wearing helmets or had not tied seat belts. Among the total accident, 10184 happened due to rash driving by the vehicle drivers.

In 2016 around 2131 accidents happened only due to talking on mobile phones during driving or using headphones in which more than 1300 people lost their lives. The death toll phenomenally increased by 37 per cent in last five years.

State Principal Secretary (home) Arvind Kumar, happy with the result of the special drive, said that the two week long drive had yielded good result so far. “We need awareness on road safety to minimize the accidents and save the lives of people,” he further said.
