Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu asked the people to gear up for the GST regime slated to be rolled out on the intervening night of June 30 and July 1 as scheduled. “The new regime might encounter some initial hiccups. But do not get bogged up as every new thing gets through such hiccups in the beginning. So we must face them up squarely. There are GST Mitras to help us. There is thus no need to be panicky,” he said. He assured the business community people that GST would prove a milestone for the nation’s development. “Prices of several items would automatically come down once the regime comes into force. It would check inflation too,” he said.
However, he steered clear of the prices of the petroleum products which drive inflation, something that has been excluded from GST. He said that except the tax dodgers, no one need to get panicky. “It is meant to bring a uniform tax system in the country. It would immensely benefit the trading community,” the Union minister said.
