The Uttarakhand Medical Service Selection Board (UMSSB) has initiated a recruitment drive to fill large number of vacant faculty positions in the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC).
More than 40 percent faculty positions in the college are vacant at present. On Tuesday a team of inspectors of Medical Council of India (MCI), the apex body of medical education had visited the college and associated hospital. Vacant faculty positions are one of the major challenges for the nascent college which started its first batch of MBBS students last year. On Thursday the selection board released recruitment advertisement for the posts of Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors. The board would organise a walk in interviews for various post on April 09. The college would recruit eight Professors , two of General Medicine and one each of Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic medicines, community medicines and blood bank. Similarly 13 posts of Associate Professors are also advertised. They include Pathology and General Medicine three each, obstetrics and gynaecology, radiology and community medicine two each and one post of forensic medicine. Twenty two posts of assistant Professors are also advertised. They include Pathology (2), microbiology (2), pharmacology (2), Community medicine (6), blood bank (01), General Medicine (4), Radiology (1), Antenatal officer (1), Anaesthesia (1), General Surgery (01) and skin (01). Apart from faculty positions two lady medical officers for rural and urban training health centres are also required. These appointments would be made on contractual basis for one year period. The interested candidates should make a demand draft of Rs 500 in favour of Uttarakhand Medical Service Recruitment Board.
The college at present has 60 Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors. The GDMC has recruited Professors on a fixed monthly salary of Rs 1.23 lakh, Associate Professor on Rs 1.10 lakh and Assistant Professor on Rs 95000. Similarly the SR is employed on a salary of Rs 60000 while the pay of JR and tutor is fixed at Rs 52000 per month.
Many Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, JR and SR had left the college in recent past triggering a shortage of faculty positions in the nascent medical college.
The delay in disbursal of salary, undue interference in work and internal politics in the college are said to be the reasons behind disillusionment among the members of faculty.
