At least 56 girls tied the nuptial knot and five others performed ‘Nikaah’ in front of Palash Hotel under the Mukhya Mantri Vivah/Nikah Yojana. This includes two disabled couples too.
Revenue, Science and Technology Minister Umashankar Gupta and his wife Radha Gupta welcomed the ‘baratis’. The Baraat which proceeded from Depot Chouraha was welcomed with flowers at several places. Gupta like a guardian took part in every ritual and both he and his wife gave ‘bidai’ to the couples.
Gupta said that it is a government scheme but the programme organised was like a family. He said that next year the programme will be organised on the occasion of Basant Panchami.
Revenue Minister Gupta administered the oath to all the bridegrooms to stay away from liquor. He asked them to stay away from all kinds of intoxication. Danish Ice-Cream owner Imranullah gifted blankets to the 61 couples at the mass marriage programme. Anees Khan gave Rs5,100 assistance.
Revenue Minister presented jar boxes and bathroom set, Ramdayal Prajapati gave tiffins, Corporator Jagdish Yadav gave Rs21,000, lalaram Maran gave Rs5,000, lilaram Heights gave Rs31,000 and Sushil Kumar gave 61 containers to the couples. Other social workers also extended support.
