UK clinched two gold as curtains fell on police tourney

The 66th All India Police Athletics Meet ended at Maharana Pratap Sports College ground here on Saturday with the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat congratulating the winners and appreciating the sportsman spirit displayed by all the participants. 

The concluding day of the tournament proved good for Uttarakhand as   lal Singh and Shiv Kumar brought laurels to the host by clinching gold medals in the events they participated in. lal Singh clocked a time of 2. 22. 59 to win the gold medal in Marathon. Border Security Force’s (BSF) Radhye Kumar won silver while Vikas Kumar of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bagged bronze medal in the exciting event.

In the Hammer Throw event, Shiv Kumar of Uttarakhand Police flung the hammer at a distance of 61.50 meters to add another gold to the host’s medal kitty. Gagan Kumar of SSB finished  second with a throw of 59.01 mts while Gurjohar Singh of BSF got  the bronze. In the 400 mt race, Baghnaraj Mirdia of Odisha bagged the gold medal with a timing of 48.02 seconds.

 The 400 mt women’s event saw Aayana Thomas of CRPF clinching the gold medal while Radha Verma (CRPF) and Kiran Pal Kaur (Punjab police) won silver and bronze medals respectively. Pawan Sharma of CRPF won the 3000 mt steeplechase event while in the long Jump Bikramjeet Singh of BSF bagged the gold medal. Prosenjeet Kayal of SSB won the gold medal in 110 mt hurdles while in female 110 mt hurdle event, Arvinda Rathwa of Punjab grabbed the gold medal.
