Noted experts, environmentalists, members of the religious fraternity, captains of industry, actors and representatives from global bodies including the United Nations (UN) are expected to take part in a two-day high level summit -“You are the Solution” for rejuvenating and protecting the waters of the Ganga river to be organised on banks of Ganga in Rishikesh on June 3 and 4.

The two-day summit on the Ganga and a green India is being organised at Parmarth Niketan by Global Interfaith WASH Alliance (GIWA). “ The experts, spiritual leaders and dignitaries attending the two-day summit  will discuss technical and social  ways and means for continuous unpolluted flow of the holy river Ganga, the source of water for over 50 crore people and also one of the most threatened rivers in the world. Sadly, like Ganga, many of our nation’s other water sources are now also drying up as they simultaneously turn black with pollution,” said GIWA co founder Swami Chidanand Saraswati.

“Global leaders attending the summit will discuss current challenges being faced by the holy river and suggest ways to protect and maintain free-flowing and unpolluted State of the Ganga and find workable solutions to the problems of pollution and obstruction. The Ganga is the life source of the region and also a powerful symbol of cultural and spiritual renewal. Now, times are changing and the Ganga and Yamuna rivers have been given rights equivalent to a person by a landmark decision of the Uttarakhand High Court. This means hope for millions of people dependent of Ganga but there is still much to be done. As our Ganga’s—and our nation’s-- waters decline and suffering increases, we know it’s time to do more than talk and  this two-day summit will help work towards progressive, life-changing actions,” he added.

 The event focused on rejuvenation and protection of the Ganga will commence on the morning of June 3 with a state-level summit. During the evening, a large live-broadcasted national-level summit with leaders of India’s major faiths and other foremost dignitaries will be held. The high-level national summit proceedings will continue throughout June 4, informed the event organisers.
