Transport department charged of providing registration number to redundant vehicles

The association of city bus association of Dehradun has charged the transport department for illegally providing new registration numbers to vehicles declared redundant by neighbouring states and allowing these outdated vehicles to ply on the mountainous routes including Char Dham Yatra. Addressing newsmen the President of the association Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal claimed that apart from char dham yatra many outdated vehicles of states like Himachal Pradesh are operating on Dehradun- Vikasnagar-Dakpathar route and Vikasnagar- Kulhal- Chakrata route after re registration in Dehradun and are putting the lives of the people travelling in them in peril.

He said that when the department was asked the about auction of disposed off vehicles through a Right to Information (RTI) query, it informed that it does not have any information about such vehicles.  The President of the association said that if the department has no information about auctioned vehicles then without clearance of RTO his subordinate staff cannot provide registration and fitness certificate. Dandariyal provided details of some disposed off vehicles of other states which after registration in Dehradun office were provided new numbers are operating in the State.
