Unlike other states, Jharkhand is not going to have any public transport corporation like body anytime soon. Joint Transport Commissioner Shekhar Jamuar said today that the State was very clear with the view that it wouldn’t go form something called Jharkhand State Road Transport Corporation (JSRTC) in line with similar State-run transport bodies which manage and run government buses on roads.
“It (formation of any such body) is not on cards, not at least since last five years and for sometime now. We are clear with the view that the way intra and interstate buses have been operated is fine and government doesn’t require any body to operate buses of its own,” said Jamuar after the meeting of Transport Minister CP Singh with transport and traffic officials concluded on Monday.
Singh sat with transport department and traffic officials on Monday to discuss some of the long pending issues. “Most of the issues were related to problems coming in way after many processes were digitised. There are issues with Sarthi-2, which has hampered issuance of licenses. Data is not being automatically saved after manual entry of NOC. The Minister has directed to mend things as early as possible,” said Jamuar.
This meeting of the Minister with department officials, sources said, was important for two reasons. “E-rickshaw operators are not at all happy with the allocation of routes in first lottery and there are issues with diesel-petrol run auto rickshaw as well. Second, the traffic in the city which appeared so arranged and systematic during two days of Global Investors’ Summit has gone back to square one. There were discussions on these issues,” said an official present in the meeting.
However, Traffic SP Sanjay Ranjan Singh who was also present in the meeting said that issues related to objections of e-rickshaw operators related to their route carried some sense.
