Government officials, experts from the field and representatives from social sector organisations today emphasised on the necessity to come together and work towards controlling and managing Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) during a review meeting of United Dialogue and Action Against Non-Communicable Diseases (UDAAN) here at the RCH, Namkom here on Wednesday.
The dissemination meet aiming to combat NCDs was conducted in the wake of completion of one year of UDAAN in collaboration with Project Hope, Boston Scientific, Vikas Bharti Bishunpur and State Government. The meeting was organised to review the progress of last one year and to decide the agendas for next year
Padma Shri Ashok Bhagat, Mission Director Kripanand Jha and Director in Chief, Health, Sumant Mishra were present as esteemed guests on the occasion. Alongwith other members of UDAAN, many ASHAs and ANMs were present at the event to share their view points and field work experience.
The UDAAN programme majorly focuses on prevention, pre-disease and disease state care and management. “It is enormously encouraging that both public and private sectors have come together as one community to fight against growing challenges of NCDs. We have tried to bridge the Public and Private sectors for a greater impact. We aim at creating more skilled workers in both Public and Private sectors,” said Dr lK Pallo from Project Hope.
UDAAN has been working in Kanke block for one year. In this event, many ASHAs and ANMs were present at the event to share their view points and field work experience. “Before coming in contact with UDAAN, we were unaware about the cruciality of diseases like diabetes and Hypertension. But now when we are aware these we can help the common public in a better way.
Intra Health International (IHI) focuses on the launch of ‘mSakhi’ app for ASHAs, ANMs and NCD clinic staff for better use of the platform. The app will help in supportive supervision of FlWs, strengthening the referral mechanisms and timely reminders to patients for checking medicines. Around 51 ASHAs have been marked amongst which smart phones will be distributed on july 7. Further, they will be trained to use the application,” said Reena Kumari a participant.
Mission Director Kripanand Jha said, “We will try to provide our full support to the project”. He assured that the necessity of medicines for NCDs will be fulfilled and they will try to fill the vacant seats of health officials.
Concluding the meeting Dr. AK Singh Former Chairman IMA suggested that “There should also be sufficient terminal centres in the state which should give priorities to the patients referred by the ASHAs.”
