Around 5000 teachers involved in the evaluation of answer sheets of matriculations and intermediate examinations have demanded the State government as wells as Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) to bring the payout at par with CBSE standards for evaluating the answer scripts.
Teachers have threatened that they will go on indefinite strike from May 4, if their demand is not immediately addressed.
Teachers engaged in evaluation process added that JAC as well as the Department of School Education and literacy is yet to take any action to our long pending demands.
Notably, the evaluation of answer scripts was started on April 16 at 78 centres across the State for Matric and Inter Science and Commerce stream subjects.
Similarly, evaluation of humanities subjects will begin from May 2.
Earlier also, glitches like unavailability of specific subject teacher for correcting few subjects answer sheets, including the time schedule created hurdle in the beginning. Now, this demand of teachers may hold back the board result that is declared in the last week of May every year.
However, JAC Chairperson Arvind Prasad Singh assured that in spite of all, the board results of Intermediate and Matriculation will be declared on May 30 as per the academic calendar. He further added that, increment of wages for evaluating answer scripts is not under JAC jurisdiction.
“Only the State government can make any provision for increasing the pay amount. But, the amount cannot be brought at par with the CBSE as the State Board charges very nominal amount from children while CBSE charges hefty amount under various sub-heads,” added Singh.
Notably, a teacher is paid Rs. 16 per answer script as per the set JAC guidelines while CBSE teacher gets Rs. 750 to Rs. 1400 per answer script.
Meanwhile, the teachers association union leader, Raghunath Singh said, “around 5000-7000 teachers are involved in correcting answer sheets. Per day, we get Rs.250 and Rs. 30 for refreshment whereas a CBSE teacher gets Rs. 750 per day and Rs. 75 for refreshment. For evaluating one answer sheet, they receive Rs. 25 and extra amount is paid, if they are deployed 12 mm away from the main city or at other centre.”
“Even after 7th Pay Commission recommendations, the evaluation fee has not increased a penny,” added Singh.
