Suspense continued over the continuation of DGP Sulkhan Singh in office for three additional months on Friday even as the UP Police department gave him a ceremonial farewell parade at Reserve Police lines in lucknow on Friday. Singh's order for service extension of three months did not arrive at Chief Secretary’s office till Friday morning.
Thanking his junior colleagues, especially lower rung cops, for their contribution and support, the outgoing DGP said that every one contributed in the department which has made UP Police one of the best forces in the world.
Singh said that in future too, the men in uniform would keep the head of the force high and always contribute to the best of their ability to serve the people. In the absence of the extension letter, Singh would officially retire on Saturday.
At the farewell function, Singh also felicitated PAC Platoon Commander Chandrahas Kushwaha, who won five medals for the department during the recently concluded World Police Fire Games, 2017 in California. The outgoing DGP handed over a citation and reward of Rs 1 lakh for his achievement.
Meanwhile, sources said that though Sulkhan Singh was confident about occupying the top post for another three months, his file was however not cleared by the Prime Minister’s office till Friday evening.
Officers queuing for their turn to become the top UP cop have once again upped their last minute efforts to win the Chief Minister’s confidence. However, even if Singh failed to get the extension, it was unlikely that his successor would be announced before October 1.
