local authorities in Shamli have registered a FIR against controversial Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MlA Suresh Rana, an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, after he stirred a controversy by stating that if BJP wins the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, curfew will be imposed in Kairana, Deoband and Moradabad.
Rana made these remarks while addressing an election rally in Shamli’s Thana Bhawan on Sunday night. The district police registered the FIR under section 171 and 505 of the IPC along with section 125 of the RP Act at the Thanabhawan police station, police confirmed here on Mondayevening.
However, the BJP MlA clarified that his statements meant for goondas who compelled the people to migrate from Kairana to other places. ``They will be forced to leave, if BJP comes to power.” He had also accused the Samajwadi Party of patronising the ‘goondas’, who were responsible for mass exodus. Rana is the third BJP leaders to be booked for his statement. The first was BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj and then Sardhana MlA Sangeet Singh Som, were already booked for violation of model code of conduct. The BJP in its manifesto too have raked up the Kairana exodus issue and has promised to set up a special task force in police department. The District Magistrate will be hold responsible for the exodus if their government comes to power in the state.
Meanwhile reacting to the statement of the BJP MlA, SP spokesperson and UP Minister Rajendra Choudhury commented that BJP leaders must stay in their limits, else, democracy has the power to defeat them.
