Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday re-constituted its core committee by inducting four new members, including former minister and firebrand leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
Taking the decision, SAD president Sukhbir Badal maintained that the former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will continue to be the patron of the committee.
Other than Majithia, the new members included in the core committee are former minister and sitting MlA Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, former minister Surjit Singh Rakhra and senior party leader Baldev Singh Mann.
Sitting MPs Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, Balwinder Singh Bhunder, and Prem Singh Chandumajra are among the senior members of the committee. SGPC president Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar, former Minister Tota Singh, Punjab Vidhan Sbaha’s former Speakers Charanjit Singh Atwal and Nirmal Singh Kahlon, among others were also members.
The core committee has a total of 26 members, including Badal and his son Sukhbir.
The newly-constituted committee will meet for the first time on June 3 at Jalandhar to discuss the political scenario of the state, the party spokesperson said.
The SAD, in alliance with the BJP, ruled Punjab for the last 10 years. In February’s Assembly polls, the party was relegated to the third position with only 15 seats in the 117-member House.
