The State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) will be organising a day-long workshop on ‘Swachch Bharat Abhiyan’, Mission Clean City and other ongoing projects on February 3 at VW Canyon from 10.00 am onwards, officials informed.

Chief Minister Raman Singh will be the chief guest on the occasion while Urban Administration Minister Amar Agrawal will preside over the function.

In this workshop, discussion on ‘Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan’ , Mission Clean City will be discussed with the mayors, speakers, chairmen, commissioners, chief municipal officers (CMO) of civic bodies, municipal council, nagar panchayats etc.

Notably, For quick disposal of solid waste, which has remained a challenge, the Chhattisgarh Government has sought help from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai.

Under the ‘Mission Clean City’, for studying the quick compost making process, a team of officers from State Urban Development Authority (SUDA) recently visited BARC.

Notably, BARC which is a premier multi-disciplinary Nuclear Research Centre of India, has successfully carried out numerous research related to compost production from solid waste.

This premier institution has carried out research in producing electricity from waste, CNG and cooking gas from garbage.

SUDA officials informed that a team of scientists from BARC will soon visit Raipur and will give a presentation to top administrative officials in this regard.

Notably, State Government has covered 158 towns under the Mission Clean City under which door-to-door garbage collection will be performed so that environment could be kept clean.

According to officials, the wet and dry garbage are separated and treated accordingly. Then compost is produced from the wet garbage while dry waste is sent for recycling purpose.

Notably, SUDA in Chhattisgarh is in the process of preparing a Master Plan for implementation of Solid Waste Management Project in all the 168 Urban local Bodies (UlBs) of Chhattisgarh, officials informed.

It will also get a feasibility study and Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared for all UlBs in the State .

Meanwhile , it may be recalled that top brains currently being nurtured in the country’s premier business and technology schools will soon get assignments to prepare urban development plans for civic bodies in Chhattisgarh.

The Chhattisgarh Urban Administration and Development Department has decided to invite interns comprising mainly students and researchers from renowned institutions like IITs and IIMs who would help in preparing better plans for management of water supply, low cost housing, sewerage management, solid waste management, poverty eradication, study of various State and Central schemes related to vehicular traffic management in urban areas.

Moreover, as per official information released during May last year, under the AMRUT Mission the nine municipal corporations- Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Bhilai, Korba, Rajnandgaon, Raigarh, Jagdalpur and Ambikapur- have been selected wherein ‘Shahar Sandhan Yojna’ (City Research Scheme) will be launched.

The scheme is aimed at utilizing the educational knowledge of students and researchers in better development of cities, officials said.

SUDA has already issued directives to all nine Municipal Corporations in this regard.

The students in final year of graduation or post graduation studying Engineering, Management, Town Planning, Environment, Technology or Social Studies will be eligible for carrying out the studies. The research scholars can also take part in the studies in various municipal corporations.

Notably the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) decided last year that it would set up an Organic Waste Converter ( OWC ) for conversion of organic waste generated daily in the vegetable markets in the city.

The waste collected would be converted into organic manure.

Notably, 100 per cent door-to-door collection and waste segregation would be taken up as per RMC’s ‘Smart City’ plans.
