Subarnapur traders don't accept Rs 10 coins

Monday, 31 July 2017 | PNS | SONEPUR

Rumours have spread across Subarnapur district that the legal tender for 10-rupee coins has ceased and, thus, small shopkeepers and traders are now refusing to accept the coins at many places.

Traders in Sonepur, Tarbha, Binka, Dunguripali, Birmaharajpur and Ullunda refuse to accept the 10-rupee coin, triggering panics among the people. Some shopkeepers have argued they don’t accept coins as banks are not taking the same from them. Another rumour says that duplicate coins were in circulation and, hence, the whole 10-rupee coins have been banned.

“I am worried as I have several 10-rupee coins,” lamented a grocery shop-owner, Ram Chandra Naik.

The rumour started spreading after some bank refused accepting the coins on the plea of facing problem in counting.

However, banks have asserted that legal tender of 10-rupees is still in force.
