Newborn baby boy stolen from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) premises on Friday morning has been recovered from Kujju of Topa police station in Ramgarh district in a result of swift action from police right after a missing complaint was lodged at Bariatu police station on Friday.
City SP Kishore Kaushal said on Saturday that a team formed by the order of SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi led by Deputy SP (City) Vikas Chandra Srivastava was investigating the matter closely, which garnered desired result in time.
“We acted swiftly on the case and the CCTV footage that we obtained from RIMS helped a lot in recovery of the baby. We caught the lady in CCTV footage with baby from Kujju village area in Ramgarh who has been brought and being interrogated on various angles. We are trying to know if it was her first crime or she comes out as a repeated offender. The good thing is that the baby is safe and has been handed over to his parents after due process,” said Kaushal on Saturday.
At the same time, RIMS Director Bl Sherwal said that the hospital administration was undertaking numerous steps to prevent such incidents which were blot to the reputation of the largest government hospital in the State.
“We are in process of installing another CCTV camera in the area around Gynecology ward where there have been such incidents earlier also. We have also deployed another guard there to ensure that no such incident takes place further. We are also in process of tagging mothers and newborns in hospital so that no one other than family members takes any kid out of the hospital without coming into eyes of hospital administration,” said Sherwal.
One Salamat Ansari from Muri, whose wife Arjan Biwi had given birth to a baby boy on Thursday evening around 7 O’clock had approached Bariatu police station later in the day claiming that an unidentified lady had stolen his newborn. The police started search operation for the thief and newborn and CCTV footages were examined only to get the thief caught in a number of frame with baby.
Notably, a one-day old baby girl was also reported missing on March 1 from RIMS premises. Fortunately, that baby was also recovered very next day.
