The Cancer Research Institute of Swami Rama Himalayan University would organize a continuing medical education (CME) on recent advances, early diagnosis of cancer and more effective and cost friendly ways for breast cancer treatment to bring about improvement in breast cancer care in India. The two-day programme would commence on April 1. The CME will be attended by cancer professionals from all over the country.
The CME will be inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of the university Dr Vijay Dhasmana and Director AIIMS Rishikesh and Jodhpur, Dr Sanjeev Misra.
Renowned oncologists like Dr MK Mahajan(Bathinda),Dr S.C. Sharma(MMU, Ambala),Dr Firuza Patel(Chandigarh), Dr SVS Deo (AIIMS, New Delhi), Dr Chintamani (Safdarjung,Delhi),Dr D C Doval(RGCI,Delhi), Dr Punita lal(SGPGI,lucknow) and Dr Shyam Agarwal(Ganga Ram hospital ,Delhi) are expected to participate in the CME.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in urban women and IInd most common cancer in rural women. It is estimated that in 2015, nearly 76000 women died of this cancer in the country.
Owing to the lack of awareness of this disease and in absence of breast cancer screening program majority of breast cancer are diagnosed at an advanced stage.
In the state of Uttarakhand, it is estimated that breast cancer accounts for nearly 23 percent of all diagnosed cancers.
