Under the drive launched by the Pauri police, Senior Superintendent of Police Jagat Ram Joshi met 100 senior citizens and specially-abled people at their residences in Khandusain and its adjoining areas on Friday and enquired into the problems they are facing.
Besides, police personnel from the constable to the officer also met over 1000 persons both from the urban and rural areas in different parts of the district on Friday to understand their problems. The drive launched in August is meant to identify the elderly persons who are living alone and also to understand the problems the senior citizens are facing in terms of security and others like the clearance of the old age pension.
The senior citizens who the officers visited looked alated. “I am feeling secure in the knowledge that some people are taking care of me. The day coinciding with Mahanavami has gladdened me more,” said an elderly man who has been living alone. Police personnel are also happy with the move initiated by SSP. They say that it would create a positive feeling of the people towards the police force. “They must be feeling secure as they know that we are near them, always ready to help them out of their problems,” said a constable.
SSP Joshi said that the police personnel have visited houses of senior citizens and others who are living alone in town, mohallas and villages on Friday and collected information about the problems they are facing. “Police would make all possible efforts to redress the problems of the senior citizens.
The police personnel would continue meeting them once in a month. They would give them the contact numbers of the police stations concerned to be used in case of any help required. We would also coordinate with other departments in case the stated problems are outside the police purview,” he added.
