Six killed in road mishaps

At least six persons were killed and score of people injured in separate road accidents in Uttarakhand in last 24 hours, officials said.

Five people are reported to have lost their lives when a Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) —Bolero, ferrying 15 passengers, fell into a deep gorge in Nagnath area of Chakrata on Saturday morning.

Police said the accident occurred around 5.45 pm when the vehicle swayed off the road. The vehicle was returning from a marriage ceremony and was headidng toward lohari. The local people were first to start the rescue operation.

Station House Officer (SHO) Chakrata, Arvind Kumar, confirming the incident informed to The Pioneer that the injured were taken to a Government Hospital at Nagnath. The Circle Officer (CO), Vikasnagar was on his way to the accident site when this reporter contacted with him over phone.

In another accident, a car travelling from Munsyari to Madkot in Pithoragarh district met with an accident on Saturday. One person lost his life in this accident.

It may be mentioned that earlier this month, 45 people lost their lives when a bus they were travelling in fell into gorge near Tyuni in Himachal Pradesh. The Vikasnagar- Chakrata route, considered to be the lifeline of the Jaunsar area, is prone to accidents as large a number of people have lost their lives in recent times in accidents.
