Several trains via Tatanagar cancelled, rescheduled

Heavy rains in Mumbai hit several important trains traveling on the Mumbai-Howrah main line.  Trains passing through Tatanagar railway station were rescheduled and cancelled on Tuesday.

The Howrah-bound Geetanjali Express and the lTT -Kamakhya Karmabhoomi Express which travels via Tatanagar were cancelled today. Several trains including the Mumbai-Howrah-Duronto Express, Mumbai lTT- Tatanagar Antyodaya Express, and Howrah-bound Mumbai Mail were rescheduled today. The Mumbai lTT-Shalimar Kurla Express, the  Ahmedabad Express and couple of other long distance trains were running late by over 10 hours as they were made to run on a diverted route.

An official of Tatanagar railway station said that they got an information from Garden Reach headquarters of South Eastern Railway ( SER) regarding cancellation, late running and rescheduling of trains. " Railway has been badly hit due to the heavy rains in Mumbai for the last couple of days. It has led to disruption in movement of trains in the Mumbai-Howrah route," he said.

A separate counter was opened at the Tatanagar railway station for cancellation of tickets. The enquiry centre at the Tatanagar railway station was today flooded with phone calls of passengers enquiring about trains running in the Mumba-Howrah route.

Moreover, Mumbai rains have not only made life dejected there but in the city members of Marathi community are also worried lot. Parents of students studying there have been concerned for their children. The family members are relying on social networking sites to get connected.

Tapti Mohan of Sonari, said that his son studies there and is facing hardships. He has been calling from somewhere else just to inform us that he is safe. “I am worried. Though situation was normal recently but now the downpour has created havoc,” said Mohan.

 Meanwhile, passengers traveling to other places in Maharashtra are facing harrowing times. Due to cancellation of trains they have no choice left to travel to other places. Due to this, the rush in other trains has increased so much so that the authorities have issued a no-room for trains.
