The hike in electricity rates coming close on the heels of the swearing-in of the BJP Government in the State, sections of people from Dehradun sounded shocked.
One Ramesh Uniyal, resident of Vikaslok, Sahastradhara, vented his disappointment, saying that the hike was the least expected from the new Government coming to power on the crest of the promised achchhe din.
“The hike rate would add to our woe,” he said. Sameer Bisht, resident of Kewal Vihar, echoed the same sentiment, saying that the recent hike in electricity tariff coupled with the spiralling prices of essential commodities would make life harder for the poor and the middleclass people.
“We hope that the state Government would announce some relief for the people who have voted BJP to power, hoping that it would take steps to mitigate the hardships they have been undergoing,” he said.
Amit from Jakhan, however, said that they were ready to pay the hiked rate in case the departments concerned would assure them of power—cut free summer.
