The nationwide ‘Swachchhta Sarvekshan-2018’ getting bigger with every passing year will be initiated again from January 4 raising the parameter of cleanliness challenge to a much higher scale. With around 4,041 Urban local Bodies (UlBs) set to take up the challenge across the nation, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), the biggest UlB in Jharkhand that has shown much enthusiasm since beginning is all prepared for the ultimate fight to grab the top slot.
Adopting some unique features like introducing the concept of decentralised composting in hotels, restaurants in the capital city for disposing solid waste materials generated in bulk to adopting an innovative system of pit composting at public parks maintained by RMC, the Municipal Corporation is leaving no stone unturned to spread the message of cleanliness among the denizens.
As many as 15 hotels have installed decentralised composting system on their premises. The deadline for mounting decentralised composting pits at hotels is December 31. Similarly, at six parks which include Sri Krishna Park, Harmu Nigam Park, Nigam Park Morhabadi, Children Park Morhabadi, Ramdayal Munda Park, the civic body has introduced the concept of pit composting for producing green manure.
Besides keeping the track of old mechanisms like registering grievances through mobile application, which too registered strong presence this year among the city residents and has helped the State in grabbing the top slot in ‘Swachchhta-MoUD’ download task, special attention has been given on installing sufficient number of modular toilets at a specific radius, decking up twin-bins at a distance of 500 metres both at commercial areas and residential pockets has been done by the Corporation in a stimulated time.
To register public opinion more strongly and precisely, public feedback system has been also installed inside a few public toilets. Bringing in the concept of bio-toilets at 30 places within urban vicinity, including child friendly and differently-abled toilets concept for the first time, the civic body personnel will soon complete the task of making 30 ‘Sulab-Sauchalayas’ child and differently-abled friendly.
For rigorous advertisements, apart from using several social networking sites, 2,000 standees and more than 100 hoardings have been installed at 45 identified spots with Swachchh Bharat Mission (SBM) quotes written on it. In addition, the members of SBM Cell formed at Municipal Corporation level to monitor the task taken up during the survey is organising skits, Nukkad Nataks, workshops to create awareness about the upcoming ‘Swachchhta Challenge’.
Meanwhile, in a bid to cross the biggest hurdle that involves registering public opinions about the status of sanitation at their respective UlBs, soon a team from Quality Council of India (QCI) will be visiting the Capital City to record the public opinion.
According to a City Manager, the Ministry of Urban Development and Planning has not released the dates for Ranchi City as on when the QCI team will conduct the survey of State Capital. As per the information, the QCI team will be evaluating the status of Khunti district on January 4. According to sources, six questions carrying 1000 marks will be asked from around 500 people that will be selected randomly through the data base.
The survey will conclude on February 15. The assessment of UlBs will be done out of 4,000 points. For documentation work 1,400 points
will be given. For citizens’ feedback, the UlB will receive 1,000 points while for direct observation 1,200 points
will be given to the municipal corporation.
