A fact-finding committee, set up by the Ravenshaw University authorities to probe into the allegations and counter-allegations made by a male and a female teacher of the Hindi department, submitted its report to Vice-Chancellor Prakash Chandra Sarangi on Wednesday.
“The committee has given a clean chit to Assistant Professor Abhishek Sharma and found Associate Professor Anjuman Ara guilty of slapping Sharma and bringing false and malicious allegations against him,” Prof Sarangi said, adding that appropriate action would be taken against the guilty teacher.
Abhishek Sharma last month had complained to the Vice-Chancellor stating that he was slapped in the presence of some students by Anjuman Ara without any provocation. Anjuman, on the other hand, alleged that Abjishek had made certain obscene gestures at her, for which she had reacted.
Both teachers had also brought similar charges and counter-charges against each other six months ago and police complaints were made. The local Mahila police, after investigating into both complaints, had dismissed them as baseless and unfounded.
However, after the recent fact-finding committee report, the university authorities are contemplating to take severe action as par law against the female teacher, who has been in the habit of making false and fabricated allegations, thereby tarnishing the image of the educational institution.
“A charge-sheet will be handed over to the teacher and she will be given an opportunity to defend herself at an appropriate forum as per provisions of th Odisha Education (Amendment) Act of 2005,” Vice-Chancellor Sarangi informed.
