A man is being viewed as the prime suspect in the murder of his wife and daughter at a hotel in Govindghat- the main stop on the pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib gurudwara. It is being stated that the family of three had returned from the pilgrimage and were staying at the hotel when the double murder was committed late on Monday night.
According to the Chamoli district police, Ambala resident Jasvir Singh, his wife Jasvinder and their 17 year old daughter Simran had arrived in their car and booked into a hotel at Govindghat on May 29. Early on Tuesday morning, the hotel workers saw their room locked from outside, who informed the police on suspicion.
On reaching the hotel, the police were informed by the workers that Jasvir had left at 4 AM in his car after locking the door. As no sound was coming from inside the room, the police broke the lock and entered the room to find Jasvinder and Simran with their throats slashed. Following this, on the directions of the Chamoli superintendent of police Tripti Bhatt, checks were conducted in all police station areas, police posts and barriers with officials concerned in the bordering districts also being informed about the search. The car that the absconding husband was driving was found abandoned in Karnprayag. The SP has formed teams that have departed to arrest Jasvir. The relatives of the murder victims have also been informed by the authorities.
According to the police, attempts are being made to arrest Jasvir. There is a possibility of him using public transport to escape. The cooperation of the Ambala police is also being sought in this regard. With a local police team also departing for Ambala, the authorities expect to solve the case of the double murder soon. According to the police, the murders appear to have been committed due to some domestic disturbance.
