Police going overdrive to uncover unaccounted cash in tune with the instruction of the Election Commission, Rs1.24 crore of such currency has been seized so far in the State. Police said that the sum has been recovered through the vehicle checking drives conducted by police.
The Election Commission has taken a string of measures to stop the parties and contenders from luring the voters with unaccounted money.
According to report received from the election commission office, police flying squad teams formed in each district of the State have seized accounted cash amounting to Rs1,24,04,118, including Rs4,52,843, on Monday since the enforcement of MCC.
As per the report, Rs3,87,350 was seized in Uttarkashi district while Rs54,70,790 in Chamoli, Rs14,40,000 in Rudraprayag, Rs2,43,285 in Tehri, Rs12,59,200 in Dehradun, Rs2,99,323 in Haridwar, Rs21,59,000 in Pauri, Rs1,00,000 in Bageshwar, Rs2,27,070 in Almora, Rs2,83,500 in Champawat, Rs1,28,000 in Nainital and Rs1,15,000 in Udham Singh Nagar.
The Income-Tax department officials have also been informed for further action into the seizures.
