Many potable water pipelines being damaged in Charkata, Kalsi and other mountainous areas of Dehradun district following the past few days’ torrential rain, the people are reeling under an acute drinking water scarcity. Meanwhile, the district disaster control room has received around 25 calls related to water logging, land erosion and damage of water pipelines and safety walls among others over the past 24 hours.
A disaster control room official said that seven roads are still blocked for traffic due to landslides in Kalsi, Chakrata and other mountainous parts of the district. The blocked roads are Maktipokhri motor road, Pipramilat Baila motor road, Khatiyalsebhut motor road, Chabradongri motor road, Hayodagri motor road, Doirasudau motor road and PWD Prantiya khand Kaligar Salona motor road. A caller from Raiwala informed the control room on Thursday evening, expressing fear of their area having flood. Besides, a bridge at Gabela has been damaged. A report related to damage to agricultural land has been received from Banglanala Sahaspur.
Meanwhile, Dehradun experienced rain in the morning on Thursday. Several low- lying areas of the city were found waterlogged. Ramesh Uniyal, resident of Karanpur, said that the district administration taking time to complete works of drainage and laying payjal pipelines and others are causing inconvenience to the residents.
Suman Semwal said that the nallahs in the low- lying areas of the city remaining clogged are leading to water logging. “Each year, the same things are happening,” he rued.
