After the threat of boycott of election duties by different teacher organisations and cognisance taken by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Radha Raturi over non-receipt of salaries of teachers belonging to the schools under the Centrally funded Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), the pending salaries of more than 6,500 teachers were released on Monday.
The SSA state project director Dependra Kumar Chaudhary said that the budget of salaries has been dispatched to the districts. He said that an amount of `128.14 crores was transferred by the State Government to account of State office of SSA in anticipation of receipt of budget from the Union Government.
The President of Junior High School Shikshak Sangh (JHSSS), Subhash Chauhan welcomed the decision of the Government to release pending salaries. “We were adamant on our decision to boycott election duties if the pending salaries were disbursed. The teachers are thankful for the election commission to have taken cognisance of the problem of teachers. They should now ensure that such things are not repeated in future,’’ he said.
