In an apparent move to strengthen Opposition parties' unity against the BJP-led NDA Government ahead of 2019 elections in the country, rebel JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav led a ‘Sanjhi Viraasat Bachao’ (Save Composite Culture) meet in Indore here today that saw convergence of senior leaders from various political parties on a common platform.
The political leaders cutting across party lines gave a clarion call to fight against the RSS and its associated organisations' alleged bid to ‘temper’ with and override India's Constitution which guarantees justice, equality and liberty to all its citizens, irrespective of their caste, creed and religions.
Addressing a well attended gathering here at laabh Mandapam auditorium, the rebel JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav said that India's Constitution is a great example of India's aged old composite culture but unfortunately attempts are being made to demolish the very objectives of India's Constitutions by instilling a sense of fear and panic among sections of the people on the issue of religion, caste, etc.
This ‘Saanjhi Viraasat Bachao’ meet is an attempt to protect our Constitution, he said.
Senior Congress leader and the deputy leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma in his address accused the Prime Minister Narendra Modi of drifting away form his constitutional responsibilities. Attempts are being made to misuse government agencies but we will not allow it to happen. India will not change, Sharma said adding that today the government was trying to rob us of our fundamental rights.
Our personal freedom, equality and brotherhood among different communities in the country are facing serious threat. Today religion is being misused to serve vested political interest of the government, he said adding that the very objectives of the Rs Saanjhi Viraasat Bachao' meet is to save India's age old composite culture.
Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh said that unity in diversity is India’s biggest strength but the ideologies of the RSS have come as big threat to India’s unity and diversity. The ‘Sanjhi Viraasat Bachao’ meet is a fight against such ideologies.
Accusing the RSS and its associated organisations of misusing the religion, Digvijay said the ‘Save Composite Culture’ campaign is aimed at putting curb on misuse of religion.
Senior CPI leader Sitaram Yechuri said this campaign has nothing to do with electoral politics, rather it is aimed at saving India’s composite culture. Today’s country’s unity, integrity and our personal independence are at threat. Murders are taking place in the name of cow protection and we are being robbed of our right to protest, he said the very purpose of this campaign to save country's composite culture that ensure equality, liverty and personal freedom.
