Now, psycho ops to combat Maoists: CS

Thursday, 30 November 2017 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Psychological operations and perception management would be undertaken as part of a new strategy to combat the Maoists, said Chief Secretary AP Padhi after a Unified Command meeting here on Wednesday.

Padhi said developmental activities in the insurgency-hit areas would be intensified. The under-construction Gurupriya bridge, which is to connect the cutoff region in Malkangiri district, would be completed by February 2018.

DGP RP Sharma said police and security forces would upgrade their strategy to combat the movements of Red rebels. However, he stressed on joint operations between the Central paramilitary forces and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of State police.

Notably, after a change of guard in the Maoist organisation with Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraj taking over from top Maoist Ganapathi, the rebels are expected to intensify their attacks on security forces.

In this scenario, the Maoists are expected to infiltrate into Malkangiri in larger numbers. However, with the end of the monsoon season the security forces would intensify their operations to ensure that the rebels are not able to regroup or plan any major offensive against them.
