No VVIP treatment for Ram Rahim in jail: Haryana Minister

Haryana Jails Minister Krishan lal Panwar on Wednesday said that rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is being treated as an ordinary inmate and no additional facility is provided to him in the Rohtak prison.

Panwar, while talking to the mediapersons said that stringent security measures had been put in place in the jail. An IG rank officer and jail superintendent are keeping a close watch on the security arrangements, said the Minister.

Panwar said that Ram Rahim is given the same food and facilities as provided to a convict in a jail.

The Minister, who also holds the portfolio of Transport, said that the Haryana Roadways suffered losses to the tune of Rs 14 crore during violence following conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in two rape cases.

The Minister, while talking to the mediapersons said that the bus service in the state was suspended due to the sensitive situation and buses did not ply from 17 depots for five days leading to the loss of Rs 14 crore.

The bus service in the state has now been resumed except around Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Sirsa, where curfew is imposed, said the Minister.

He said that no buses of Haryana Roadways, private operators and of other states were damaged during the violence.
