Despite stern directives by the Chief Minister to check the vector-borne diseases that have already claimed two dozen lives in the State capital, there is no improvement in the situation.
On Wednesday, three more cases of dreaded dengue and chikungunya together have been reported in the state capital. last year, Chikungunya was reported in Bhopal after a gap of five years.
Vectors that cause dengue and Chikungunya are the same. However, the effect on the body from Chikungunya is far more serious. Experts suggest that Chikungunya has only one serotype and mostly people attain lifelong immunity once they are affected by the disease. While in the case of dengue, there are four serotypes and when a person gets dengue for the second time it might turn fatal.
Medical experts feel that this time, the effect of the diseases is with different and serious symptoms.
In other data provided by health department, three people tested positive just Chikungunya and seven for dengue. So far this year, more than 30 Chikungunya cases have been reported in Bhopal.
Seven more people tested positive for dengue in Bhopal out of 35 suspected samples collected from the district.
Health department confirmed that 32 swab samples of H1N1 were tested on Wednesday. One person from Bhopal and one each from Vidhisha and Raisen tested positive for H1N1.
Swine flu has claimed 23 lives in Madhya Pradesh since July 1 this year. The deadly contagion has infected 115 people across Madhya Pradesh. More than 550 people have been suspected, as per Madhya Pradesh health department data.
