As April 1 marks the annual celebration for formation of new Odisha State way back in 1936 on the same day, the Music in Park, the signature project of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) to promote quality music, will have Odishi music recital by the local artists and musicians on March 31 at the Indira Gandhi Park.
The other attraction of the Music in Park programme is Anoop Misra, eminent classical singer from Banaras Gharana. He will be accompanied by Aryan Misra (vocal), Simanchal Maharana (Tabla), Pranaya Kumar Palei (harmonium), Sumanta Maharana and Santoash Kumar Dash on Tanpura.
The Odissi music performance, on the other hand, will be done in four phases, i.e. Jagannath Astakam by Sankaracharya, Raganga Parjaya (session) with Raga Bajra Kanti and Tala Eka Tali and song “Nikunje Jaana Braja Jubaraja Kanha’’. The lyricist is Kabi loknath Rath. The Natyanga Parjaya (session) with Raga Pilu (Mishra) and Tala Khemata and song “Barijakshi Manaru Mana Baridere’’ with lyrics by Kabi Surya Baladeba Rath will be followed by Chhanda in another session.
The Odishi recital will be performed by the students of the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalay, Bhubaneswar, and they will be accompanied by well-known exponents with the traditional musical instruments like Guru Sachhidananda Das on Mardala, Guru Binod Bihari Rout on Tabla, Guru Jawahar Mishra on flute, Guru Murlidhar Swain on Manjira and Sandhyarani Bhyuan on Tanpura.
While the music direction will be given by Guru Bijay Kumar Jena, Guru Ramahari Das, an eminent vocalist in Odishi music, will inaugurate the event.
