An analysis of the results show that the students of the mountainous districts performed much better than those of plain districts. In class XII, the districts like Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, Champawat and Chamoli located in mountainous areas and considered remote gave better result than the districts located in plains like Haridwar, Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar.
In class XII, 87.64 percent students cleared the examination in Bageshwar district which is highest in the state. Rudraprayag district with a pass percentage of 86.78 percent and Champawat, with 86.03 percent, Chamoli with 85.28 percent and Pithoragarh with 82 percent performed exceptionally well considering their tough terrain and lack of infrastructural facilities.
As compared to these districts the pass percentage of Haridwar district was only 71.84 percent whereas 77.82 and 77.05 percent students passed the examination in Dehradun and Haridwar district respectively.
The pass percentage of students in X board examination was approximately 80 percent in Pithoragarh, 79 percent in Rudraprayag and Pauri, 78 percent in Bageshwar , 77 percent in Champawat and 75 percent in Chamoli districts whereas Dehradun and Haridwar districts had a pass percentage of 72 percent and 69 percent respectively.
A retried Principal, U S Gusain said that the better performance of mountainous district shows that the with hard work and dedication, the lack of infrastructural and other facilities can be compensated. The result of these districts would improve further if the government provides teachers in schools located there, he opined.
“ These results are an eye opener for the people who are running behind the top-notched schools for their children as these students from the interiors of hilly regions despite of getting less facilities in comparison of the schools of cities still came out with flying colours and hence proved what they are capable of doing,’’ said an observer.
