Driven by frustration as his marriage proposal was rejected, a youth allegedly launched a murderous attack on a 23-year-old woman with a chopper at Udranga Chhak under the Binjharpur police limits in Jajpur district on Monday.
The woman sustained grievous injuries on her head and was admitted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
locals nabbed the youth while he was trying to flee the spot and handed him over to police.
According to police sources, the marriage proposal of Prafulla Das, a resident of Barahata village with the woman was rejected by the family members of the latter.
Getting furious over the incident, Prafulla had snatched away the mobile phone of the woman on January 3 when she was returning home.
On Monday morning, Prafulla told the woman to come to Udranga Chhak, saying that he would return her the mobile phone there. As she reached the place, Prafulla attacked her with a chopper on her head. Prafulla tried to flee the spot, but locals managed to nab him as the victim raised an alarm.
