A delegation of Umarkote Bar Association headed by its president Prasant Kumar Sahu met Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Southern) T Apang Ao on Wednesday.
The Bar members urged the RDC for immediate appointment of permanent Tehsildar and regular conduct of Sub-Collector’s camp court here. With the post of Tehsildar lying vacant for more than five months, people are facing various problems and revenue-related work has got stuck, the RDC was told.
Presently, the Block Development Officer of Raighar is acting as in-charge Tehsildar who is always found busy in other works in the block office at Raighar. The people who visit the Tehsil complex return their home without their purpose being served, apprised the members.
Further they told that the people under the Umarkote tehsil, who have cases pending in the Court of the Sub-Collector, Nabarangpur, are facing difficulties due to the irregular conduct of the camp court.
Generally, the Sub-Collector conducts hearing of the cases pertaining to OlR, OSATIP and allied appeal cases for one day every month here. But due to the irregular conduct of the court camp, litigants are undergoing a harrowing time.
Particularly, people from the SC and ST communities are at the receiving end. Although specific dates for hearing are fixed by the Sub-Collector, most of the time hearings are not held, forcing people to wait near the tehsil office all day long.
