Police resorted to cane-charging to disperse a mob gathered after a dispute between police and local traders at Qazi Camp area late in the night on Saturday.
The incident which took place at around 11.30 pm turned violent after locals pelted stones First Response Vehicle (FRV) of police and other police vehicles that reached to close shops which were open after the scheduled time of opening.
At the time of the incident, SI JP Tripathi reached the spot and instructed the shopkeepers to close their businesses but instead of closing the shops, the shopkeepers got engaged in brawl and soon it turn ugly after FRV was stone pelted forcing the police to return without taking any action. later, senior police officials were informed and force was sent immediately to the spot to handle the situation. Mild force was used to disperse the mob of locals and traders protesting police action.
SHO Hanumanganj police station Jitendra Pathak said that people outside Aqsa tea stall created ruckus and statement of tea stall owner is yet to be taken. The rear glass of the FRV was broken due to which miscreant could not be identified and would be investigated. The police have registered a case under section 427 and 326 of the IPC against unidentified miscreants.
The locals were annoyed after no action has been taken against SI GP Tripathi who had gone for instructing shopkeepers to close the shops.
Notably, the area witnesses gathering of anti-social elements as the shops remain open even after midnight and this leads to criminal activities. Several cases have been reported in the past in the area and the reason is opening of shops till late in the night. In the morning on Sunday shops of the area remained close and police force were remained deployed to avert any untoward action.
