The Vigilance Special Judge, Bhawanipatna on Thursday awarded two years of rigorous imprisonment to former Khariar BDO and incumbent Tourism Deputy Secretary Benjamin Prasad Deogam and two others in an official record manipulation case.

The two others who were convicted are Khariar block’s former Head Clerk labanya Sundar Nayak and Tarachand Agrawa, a firm owner.

The court too imposed fine of Rs3,000 on each of them, failing which they would undergo RI for one month more.

A case had been registered against the three accused persons for manipulation of records and showing undue official favour to Agrawal. Deogam and Nayak had issued purchase orders to Agrawal to supply six Sriram Freezer Aqua cooler of higher capacity at excess rate of Rs2,94,600 and had thereby caused additional loss of Rs61,560 towards tax.

On completion of investigation, the case was charge-sheeted against them to face the trial in the court of law.
