Punjab Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh on Wednesday lashed out at the AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira for his “political opportunism and cheap publicity gimmicks” wherein he has been questioning the due legal process.
“Khaira is suffering from selective amnesia as not very long ago he was singing paeans to Capt Amarinder to the extent describing him as a ‘saint statesman’…Till less than two years ago, you used to say the cases against Capt Amarinder were politically motivated and registered out of vendetta and how come now you started believing these to be genuineIJ” Rana Gurjeet asked Khaira.
Challenging Khaira to organise a dharna in Bholath — his native assembly segment — to prove his command and popularity, Rana Gurjeet said: “let you also organise a dharna there and I will also organise a dharna there and I promise you the presence in my dharna will be ten times more than yours.”
The Minister accused Khaira of trying to grab the role and space of the AAP’s state president Bhagwant Mann.
Questioning Khaira’s moral authority to blame Capt Amarinder, Rana reminded AAP leader that less than a month ago he had described him (Capt Amarinder) as a “saint statesman” during the bhog of Rajmata in Patiala last month, and now he was accusing him of patronising corruption.
Rana Gurjeet, asserting that Khaira was a rootless leader who was now turning rudderless, pointed out that he started his career with the Akali Dal, then joined the Congress before joining the AAP.
“It is just a matter of time when you will be joining some other political party like the BJP that may serve your selfish greed for power,” he told Khaira adding that he had lost all credibility by changing his stand and position to suit his political convenience.
