A political skirmish on Wednesday took an ugly turn with the leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MlA Sukhpal Khaira attacking Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on personal front.
In a below the belt attack on Capt Amarinder, Khaira questioned Pak’s defence analyst Aroosa Alam’s stay in his residence. Khaira minced no word to call Aroosa, a former journalist, a “spy”. “I believe that Aroosa Alam is a Pakistani spy. I demand a probe into this by central agencies,” said an emotionally charged Khaira.
“She could be a threat to the state of India, to a state of Punjab. I am sure that she is a spy planted by Pakistan in the house of Punjab Chief Minister,” he said. iiGoing all out, he said that he feel “sorry for Maharani Preneet Kaur…did being a maharaja, gives you a license to do such a thing”.
Distressed by “political conspiracy” against to implicate him in drug case by moving a resolution, Khaira even used abusive words against chief minister and his party colleagues. Reacting on offensive language used and personal attack launched against him by Khaira, the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder said that it has exposed the “petty and spiteful mindset” of the leader of the Opposition, and his party, which obviously did not believe in upholding constitutional or parliamentary propriety.
“AAP’s repeated attempts to undermine the state assembly, which it had been persistently obstructing from conducting its legislative business in every session, showed the party’s totally unethical character,” he said. He added that AAP was now trying to extend the same lack of propriety and ethics to its approach towards the judiciary. “Such unprincipled behaviour could not be tolerated in a democratic polity,” he added.
