JMM 'dumping' Murmu widow draws BJP flak

Friday, 31 March 2017 | PNS | Ranchi

As the date for littipara bypoll inches closer, war of words between the two major rival factions has gone bitter. The BJP has blamed the JMM for ditching family of its own MlA Anil Murmu who passed away just recently causing the vacancy to arise midterm.

“The JMM is working in an autocratic manner under the leadership of Hemant Soren. After making a promise, the party made the wife of Dr Anil Murmu cry. They would have to pay a heavy price for that. They have just used the adivasi and moolvasi as vote bank for so many years. The littipara poll would be beginning of the end of the JMM in the State,” said BJP MlA from Raj Mahal and in-charge made for the election Anant Ojha on Thursday.

Chief Minister Raghubar Das is also on campaigning spree in the constituency and held as many as four public meetings in Hiranpur and littipara blocks on Thursday. He, in his address, kept the focus on the JMM minus its patriarch Shibu Soren.

“I respect Guruji a lot. But Hemant Soren has dashed his dreams. The JMM under his rule as Chief Minister had done no good for the tribals and have just sentimentally exploited them. If this is not the case, then the party should answer why littipara and entire Santhal Pargana region remained so backward,” said the CM.

The CM during his speeches most of the times tried to justify the amendments done in the tenancy laws by his Government.

“The amendments have been done keeping all the safeguards intact. No harm to your wellbeing would be allowed to take place, I can guarantee. Sufficient provisions for land safety are there,” said the CM.

Although senior leader of the party requesting anonymity admitted that the party is feeling the heat on the CNT-SPT amendments done, especially in the tribal dominated area like the constituency.

“These people are so naïve that they do not understand technicalities and provisions made for their welfare into the Bills passed by the Assembly. The JMM people are continuously dubbing the amendments as their land is going to be robbed away from them. We are finding tough to defeat the sentiments,” said he.

The apprehension sounded true when the JMM harped on this very issue.

“We are holding more and more meetings at village level through our workers and leaders in which CNT-SPT amendment and domicile policy declared by the Government are being highlighted. We are getting lots of positive response and tribals are agitated against these steps,” said JMM candidate from the seat Simon Marandi.
