The Jat agitation in Haryana completed a month on Monday with the community leaders accusing the Manohar lal Khattar Government of doing “injustice” to the community.
Yashpal Malik, the president of the All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS), which is spearheading the agitation, said, “The State Government is doing injustice to the Jats.”
While talking to the mediapersons, he alleged that a day before, when the Jats in Haryana were observing ‘Black Day’, the Chief Minister’s OSD Capt Bhupinder attempted to instigate the community members to resort to violence in Hisar.
“The protests, however, remained peaceful. More people are joining the dharnas each passing day as the agitation entered its 30th day on Monday,” Malik said.
Meanwhile, the dharnas by Jats, continued at several places, including Bhiwani, Ambala, Hisar, Rohtak, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Sirsa, Rewari, Jind, Jhajjar and Karnal.
Malik reiterated that from March 1, the protesters will not cooperate with the government and no one will pay power, water bills and instalment of loans that they owe to the government.
Jats from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh will protest in the national capital on March 2.
In a similar Jat stir last year in February, as many as 31 people were killed and property worth crores of rupees was damaged at many places in Haryana during last year’s Jat stir which had turned violent.
Rohtak and some of its neighbouring districts, including Sonipat and Jhajjar, were the worst hit by the violence.
Meanwhile, paramilitary forces are keeping a vigil at many places.
Besides seeking quota in education and government jobs under Other Backward Classes category, the demands of the Jats include release of those jailed during last year’s agitation, withdrawal of cases slapped during the protest and government jobs for the kin of those killed and injured while taking part in the stir.
