The marathon 22-hour-long craniopagus surgery of Odisha’s conjoined twins Jaga and Kalia might get registered in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Sources said the authorities of AIIMS, New Delhi would soon write a letter to Guinness World Records officials in this regard. Videos of the surgery and information regarding its process would be submitted by the AIIMS for this purpose.
Notably, the twins hailing from Kandhamal district were separated following the marathon surgery by doctors at the hospital on October 25 and 26. A team of around 30 specialists from the institute’s neurosurgery, neuro-anaesthesia and plastic surgery departments had undertaken the operation.
Jaga and Kalia, whose cranium was fused, were brought to the AIIMS on July 14 from Milipada village in Kandhamal district. Both have been taken out of ventilator. Kalia is being fed milk and honey through a feeding tube up his nose. On the hand, Jaga has shown good improvement in his health and is able to recognise his parents.
