A commission of inquiry headed by former acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Mehtab Singh Gill, set up to look into “false cases” registered against people during the decade-long SAD-BJP rule in Punjab, on Tuesday asked the “aggrieved” to submit details by June 30.
The panel would also recommend to the Government measures that needs to be adopted for ensuring that people are not falsely implicated in any case in the future.
“Aggrieved people shall submit a proforma, either in person or through a representative or registered post, mentioning details of such false cases including its present status, list of witnesses and details of those who had lodged the complaint,” said an official spokesperson.
The two-member Commission, set up by the Amarinder Singh Government under the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952, to review the false cases registered in Punjab, also include former District and Sessions Judge BS Mehandiratta as its member.
The Commission’s tenure is six months, which, if required, can be extended.
During his election campaign, Capt Amarinder had promised the electorate that if the Congress forms government in the state, all false cases would be inquired into and justice would be ensured for the innocent.
