In yet another act of superstition, an infant was branded in Keonjhar district on Saturday.
The parents branded their 25-day-old infant with hot iron rod to cure the baby’s stomach ailments at Khabra village under Harichandanpur block.
The incidence came to the fore on Sunday morning after the baby was admitted to a hospital after his condition deteriorated following branding.
This was the second case of infants being branded with iron rods in the district in two days. On Friday, a seven-year-old child was also a victim of the superstitious act. A total of eight such cases have been reported in the tribals-dominated district in 45 days.
